Like other comments I truly like the jacket and had it issued while I was a police officer. But similar to other the review the seems to two of the hour pockets held by glue came undone. That's a 50% failure rate. For the price, I feel glad I didn't pay. I have other gear from packs, shoes, hats, patches. I paid for these items and are happy with. I think this is why the jacket was such a disappointment. And yes I did try various glue but it didn't help.nnSorry 5. 11

I've had this jacket for a long time (10+ years). Love the design and look. The quick release buckles are a nice feature for quick access or venting. Always seemed to leak through the shoulder seams in light rain, though, so I only used it in dry conditions.nnWord of caution: I just washed and dried it and all 4 waterproof zippers de-laminated. I'm disappointed it happened, but it's my fault for using medium heat and not pulling it out of the dryer sooner as I planned.

I wore the Big Horn jacket for years. The Sabre jacket was a massive and much needed upgrade. I'm not in LE, an EMT or military but a jacket like this is a huge quality of life improvement at work when I'm out and about with students. (Which is often)

I got this jacket when I was deployed with a private contracting firm out of NC. I was given a coupon code at the pro shop by a rep. I have had this jacket since 2008 and have literally worn it through two wars and countless conflicts. I love it. I need a new zipper put in mine but after all this time, 15 years now, Id say thats a small price to pay. I love mine.

I absolutely love this jacket. It was issued by employer and has kept me warm and dry. My only issue is that both chest AND both sleeve zippers became separated from the jacket. Like another reviewer stated, it is not ripped...just became unglued. I hope there's a away to fix it because I want to keep wearing this jacket.

The jacket was great in the beginning but the left pocket zip started to tear. Now I have a left zip pocket that is totally exposed. I think 5.11 is using some low quality glue to attached the zip to the opening. My right pocket is showing signs of tearing as well. Please dont buy.

Great jacket, used on duty many times. Great for switching to off duty by offering a quick concealment method by removing Velcro patches, etc. However, both arm zippers have come undone from the fabric glue creating what appears to be a rip in both arms. Not ripped, just separated from the sleeve.

I've owned 3 over the last 6 years (our department's go to jacket) and love everything about them; fit, features, style. With coyote being phased out, line really needs some new color choices though, maybe add it in storm and tundra, just a suggestion.

I had the first version of this for more than a decade, day in , day out, on and off the job, and despite it failing in places (cuffs, zippers, pockets) I did not want to let it go. Wish I had - this is such a great improvement over version 1.0! The fitting is more generous, even though it is the same size as 1.0, the cuffs are much better than before, I expect the zippers and pockets to last similarly as long as their predecessors, and after the downpours I've already been through, I would say the water resistance is about similar, well within my expectations of this material. It does also seem lighter, surprisingly, though obviously down to the use of mesh lining compared to the previous material used. The hood attachment is vastly improved and I expect it stay on, whereas the previous one was prone to being ripped off rather easily. The pockets and design overall are as good as they were. Overall, given my experience with Sabre version 1.0, I kinda knew what to expect with 2.0 but my expectations were surpassed! Sabre 2.0 is a great product, feels good, wears good!

Good for about 10 minutes in the rain, anything more and your day is ruined. Not usable for cold weather. Unfortunately this is 1 of 3 options in our policy. Incredibly expensive for what you get. The pop out tabs for your name tag, badge, etc are a gimmick.

I bought my 1st Sabre jacket 5 years ago (navy blue).. I've worked in EMS for 15 yrs and by far this has been the best jacket I've ever bought! So much that I bought the OD green one. My original one thats 5yrs old is still in great condition!! Great jacket!

y last vacation in Europe, 10 days of epic failure! Bad weather, nothing went as planned, a year or 2 to overcome the financial damage and I'm still counting the damage. However, at $450 cnd your saber jacket that outperforms a $850 cnd Artery`x goretex jacket in fit, size (they stop at XL, I needed 2 XL), ergonomics, functionality, smarts and sturdiness is making my failure easier to accept . I only have good comments, if Am losing it or any serious damages, you can trust me I will replace it by the same model again.

Im pretty tough on my clothing in general but especially my jackets/coats. If they last 3 to 5 years I consider that to be a descent article of clothing. My last Sabre Jacket 2.0 hung in there for six years. I consider that fairly outstanding.nnWould like to see a bit more reinforcing in the elbows and wrists. First, let me say I was very surprised that 5.11 even offered to replace my jacket, but the replacement leaves me less than thrilled. I had the Sabre jacket for many years, and the only issue I had since day one was the hood was way too big and always came down over my eyes when worn, and no amount of adjusting could solve the problem. In fact, the only way to not have this happen was to wear a baseball cap and then pull the hood over that. Before I went and bought a new jacket I gave customer service a call. They originally were going to try to replace the hood with one from a smaller jacket but not being able to do that they offered to send a replacement jacket. So I took them up on the offer and get the 2.0 version in the same size. First problem is the jacket is a much tighter fit. It barely fits with just a shirt on - if I put on a sweater or fleece under it I suspect it won't fit at all. Second issue is the design of the interior shell is different and you can feel the velcro panel very distinctly. Since I don't need the panel I removed it completely. I haven't had the chance to test it since the seasonal weather has changed but on the next cooler and rainy day I will test it out, but overall I'm not that impressed with this jacket.

Gets the job done for the most part and keeps me dry in the rain. Ive also had this jacket a little over a year and the quality is showing. The bicep pockets ripped apart on their own. The lining on it is also starting to come apart. Definitely not what I was expecting out of a $250 jacket that I only wear about 5 months out of the year. I expect this jacket to last me about 7years instead Im already considering replacing it.

I have been wearing 5.11 products at my place of employment for over ten years. The sizing on their clothing items have always been a mystery to me. The first jacket I had from 5.11, when my department started using 5.11 products, was size extra large and was too big; it was a Big Horn jacket and the sleeves went beyond my hands and the waist was too low. Since then, I have always gotten size large in jackets and they fit very well. I was excited when I put in a request (size large) for this jacket and it was approved. Got it yesterday and have to say I am disappointed. It fits wearing just a shirt under it, but any more layering and its nearly too small. 5.11 products are great; it is just hard to figure out the correct sizes.

Purchased this jacket in 2015 just before moving to the PNW. I've used it extensively over the past two years. I really like this jacket. Never had water get it. I really like the design. It is a perfect light weight jacket solution for everyday wear in a rainy environment. Looking forward to a third fall/winter with this jacket.

I own more coats than any one person should own. This is by far my most favorite jacket. I've had it a little over a year now. I primarily wear it over a Threat Lvl III vest (Outer Carrier so very bulky) The coat lays nice over my gear. I've never had to add a liner. It worked perfect as the top layer. It was roomy through the shoulders.The coat breathes well. During the rainy wet days, no issues with leakage. The zippers have been perfect, no issues. Over all I'm impressed. I did have patches sewn on the shoulders due to our department standards. I was worried the rain or snow make leak through the stitches but no issues. Great Jacket!

This is my "Go-To Jacket" and I love it... So Why did I only give it "4 Stars" you ask? The zippers are terrible, flimsy and weak feeling. In my opinion this is the jackets only flaw. 5.11 stands behind them 100% but it's a pain to send back a jacket I wear all the time, so I own two. I read the reviews about it not being waterproof and they must have a different jacket because I have been in some heavy rains and never been soaked... It's extremely durable and find them warm. If it's really cold I can wear a base layer and it's perfect.

Pros: Looks nice, has a lot of pockets, places to add patches of my agency, waterproof but not at a gortex level.Cons: anything colder the 50 F this jacket does not keep you warm, gets hot when I'm working Special Housing and moving a lot, Price is a little expensive, wish they made it where u can add a warmer layer for frigid temp.

5'7-190-33'' waist- Purchased Black in XL due to prior review comments. For staters Jacket seems to be made pretty well. First inspection of the product was that it was lightweight not a lot of bulk. After wearing almost every since then it has been pretty good overall coat. Recently started carrying OWB full size g21 & g34 in kydex for Bladtec holsters due the fact its more comfortable. Conceling and producing the firearm is easy. Even the G34 is concealed from searching eyes. Living in Phoenix it does get into the low 30s, at that point you may need another layer. Mid range weather I usually have on a UA or similar polo. This works just fine.This jacket is perfect for that environment. If there is a lot of wind the box cut coat lets the breeze in. Inside the hand warmer pockets there is a pull string to sung it up. This does not interfere with the pull CCW zipper. You must unbuckle the plastic clips at the zipper in order for it to work perfect every time. shake it out and try it out before you get jammed up. I chose black due to the overall general wear of the coat. If I was wearing it while deployed I may have chose a cool guy color. But the wife also gets sick of seeing tan, coyote and OD everyday. If you purchase on black friday or with 15 percent off you will save around $68. I will update later if I become dissatisfied or the coat fails.

I am a police officer in Washington State. I have bought 5.11 products in the past and have been very pleased. I purchased this jacket on Feb 22, 2013, received it in early March. The design and fit of the jacket was excellent. However, first time at the range on March 16, the jacket developed a small hole in the forearm area just below the elbow. There were obvious rub marks around the hole. We were using plastic barrels as cover and were prone in the grass, all-in-all an easy day. That is my first experience with a failure in a 5.11 product. Called 5.11 and was refused an exchange. I would NOT recommend this jacket for anything other than a night at the movies.

This is a good rain jacket. This rain jacket is not worth the cost. Fits a bit larger than other jackets I have. Very thin, not good for cold weather unless you have an inner jacket to go with it. The company should get rid of the velcro patch areas on the sleeves (most uniform patches need to go here and are bigger than the velcro patch) as well as the upper arm pockets. I would suggest adding loops for a radio mike similar to the 3 in 1 parka and add 2 pen/handcuff key pockets where the velcro patches are currently at.

After having this for a full Fall and Winter, I can say that there are some flaws in the product:* The rear panel zipper allows for a line of cold directly across your back and shoulders - about the worst place you can have it - so as a standalone jacket, this makes cooler rainy days pretty miserable. The answer may be to layer but when you start moving and warm up you *still* have that nasty cold line across your back. Perhaps some velcro and an underflap inside the jacket lining would ameliorate the cutting breeze effect.* The front panel pockets need to be velcro - they are difficult to open and manipulate without taking the jacket off.

I was very excited to get this jacket in after reading the reviews and looking at pictures. I ordered a size that fit my chest measurement. However, once it arrived I was very disappointed. For a company that manufactures clothing and equipment designed to fit users of a TACTICAL background, the fitment is far from it. This is why I gave the jacket three stars. The majority of legitimate operations and tactical professionals have wider shoulders, chest, and narrow abdominal/hip regions. The chest area fit like a large should. But the abdominal area fit like an obese individual with an oversized gut should be wearing the jacket. Clearly this is not the type of jacket designed for this type of user. I often find myself shopping at unusual places just to find clothes that fit properly. I would have expected a tactical company to understand that.I have a chest of 44", and a waist of 32". I can unzip the jacket and very nearly touch one side of the jacket, to the opposite hip. That gives you an idea of how much extra material there is.Additionally, the jacket is not very warm. For the price I would have expected some advanced lightweight insulation such as Polartec, Thinsulate, or even Thermaloft. But there isn't much of anything, and should only be worn under extreme activity or above 45 degrees F.I love the jacket, it certainly gives out the "cool guy" impression. I'll be returning this one, and exchanging it for one size smaller in hopes the chest area now doesn't feel like being smothered. Hopefully this review will act as a precaution for anyone looking for a great jacket that fits their needs.

Have had this jacket now for a year or so. Purchased it because I wanted a waterproof- or heavily water resistant jacket. This fit the bill perfectly... or so I thought.We don't get a lot of rain in San Diego, but was just outside yesterday in a moderately heavy rain for about 15 minutes. One forearm and one elbow wet when I got home. Really surprised. Wasn't wearing the hood, so I knew some would drip down my neck/ back... which it did. But I didn't expect anything else to be wet.Disappointed. I like the style and fit but this doesn't work for what I purchased it for.

Luckily I got this jacket through a friend who got me a good deal on it, because I would not pay full price for it. The jacket does what it is advertised to do. I have three issues with it: First is price. Second is that there is a side zipper on each side that goes from the wait all the way up to and past the arm pit. Totally not needed. When I would wear a SS shirt with the jacket, the zipper always bothered my underarm. Finally, the collar is way too high. It is about four inches high. When I would try and zip it all the way up to keep dry, it was like wearing a neck brace, and got I had to watch my facial hair.

Great job 5.11 there is literally nothing else one could ask for. This is bar none the best tactical jacket on the market. You can't beat the quality and price of this product. I will be bringing this to Afghanistan shortly I'm sure it will withstand the everyday riggers.

There are more pros than cons. I use it for a very light jacket and in wet weather. My only real issue is the warmth rating it has here. It should be a 1 out of 5. Sure water doesn't get through, but the material soaks in the cold. A sweater under it is a must in any chilly weather. I'd love to see a lined version of it. Sidearm access feature works like a dream... but lefties have to be careful of the leftover bungee cord loop in the back when drawing- I can see it snagging on the weapon. The cord also hangs out in the front pockets- very annoying/dangerous if pocket carrying a small pistol.

At first fit it seemed tight around the shoulders and chest; however, surprisingly flexible and allows to be very mobile for field training and everyday use. This is my first jacket from 511, and similar to the several pants, shirts, and shorts from 511 I have owned for years; the jacket is very comfortable allowing a wide range of motion. Also similar to its other clothing products mentioned above; it continually has small threads unravel and need to be trimmed. The more use the more I've noticed the threads. The jacket also tends to attack dust and (purchased the black color) lint. I use a lint brush regularly.

This is a high-quality jacket and it shows right out of the box. High end materials and design... very nice. Reviews before me have pretty much covered it all. I'll only add a few initial thoughts.The jacket feels a little bulky/stiff out of the box but fits well and I imagine it will break in and feel better over time.Complaints? It seems to me they fell a little short on the pockets (it's tough to have too many) and the type of pockets. I would have liked a pen pocket (who doesn't carry a pen?) on the inside of the jacket just inboard of the main zipper. A penlight pocket on the opposite side would have been perfect. Or (and?) a larger 2xCR123a flashlight pocket somewhere on the inside? Maybe a dedicated magazine pocket, too? Or even an elastic sleeve in one of the existing pockets to keep the magazine from sliding aroung a larger pocket?overall, it's a really great jacket. A few small additions would make it a truly fantastic jacket. Three stars for now, but that will possibly bump up to a 4 once I wear it for a while.

This jacket is my "go to" for wet WX while deployed in Afghanistan as a civilian contractor. the jacket performs quite well in rain/snow but will soak thru after around 2 hours of exposure (about the same an issue Gortex). Two issue I have noted are:1. The jacket absorbs (and holds) odors and scents. In my case, a trip to the DFAC leave the jacket smelling of curry/hamburgers for the rest of the day. the odor is bad enough for co-workers to comment.2. The quick release buckles and lower drawstring interfere with any items on the belt (holster, pouches, etc...). The plastic buckles produce noise when they rub against duty items.Like I said, a good jacket but not great.

I use this jacket on a fairly regular basis for L.E. plainclothes field work. I have used the original version of the jacket for over 2 years. The jacket is pretty warm considering it's light weight, and waterproof. I am in Texas, so blocking the wind can be more important than protecting against sub-zero temps in my area. The ID panels are a welcomed option for plainclothes work. It has more zippers/pockets than I will ever use. The sleeves on the Sabre 2.0 seem to be a bit shorter than the original version, but the 5.11 customer service is wonderful with exchanges. If you wear concealable body armor, defintely go a size larger than normal. The only con I can describe is the full retail price. Overall a great prodcut.

I see that they replaced the velcro cuffs with button ones. I had the velcro cuffs and they would not ever velcro. I really like this jacket and its great for wear all around and concealment.

I own the Sabre 2.0 and am using it for climate protection on a day to day basis with excellent results. I appreciate the quality of this gear as it's helped me survive some of the roughest conditions in combination with additional layers for warmth, while remaining dry resulting in maximum combat effectiveness. Only Request: Please add additional "small" Velcro patches on the shoulders to support IR tabs for night vision recognition by overhead flight operations.

I wanted a soft shell to use at work and when off duty. I needed something that would allow me to stay dry, be warm and let me get to my belt easily. This jacket can do all of that. I like the side zippers, and the number of pockets available. The velcro on the shoulders for patches is great for work, but I like the fact that you can remove them so I can wear it off duty. Haven't had it out in the cold yet, but looking forward to trying it out.

I needed a jacket that was good for everyday day use and that would keep me dry in the rain. I found this jacket and it seemed to fit the bill. However this jacket should not say waterproof but should say water resistant. I wore this during a rain storm one day and it kept me dry for about 2 hours but by hour 3 my upper body was damp and by hour 6 I was soaked. You would think for the high price it would be a great product but now I have to buy a new rain jacket that will actually keep me dry for more than 2 hours.

This jacket was purchased prior to our range qualifications. I was working at the range and as the saying goes, "If it's rainin', we're trainin'." Well, the inevitable happened and we had a "t***d floatin', toad choker". The first 10 minutes all went well and it did the job. After that things got wet. I had the hood up and on and the sleeves tied down. I began to feel wet, not damp, wet! I first felt it on my back and then on my forearms. I had not washed it and it had only been worn a few times in damp weather and dried hanging up. I am not sure what happened but if I spend [$] on a jacket that claims to be waterproof I expect that to be the case.

I've had this jacket for over a year and have worn it solo, while carrying a ruck, under a plate carrier and just around town. Its warm, water proof and multi-purpose...just wish it was a little longer at the waist.

As an undercover officer, this jacket provides the ideal concealment, while attaining functionality. I have worn this jacket in the rain and stayed completely dry. This jacket is lightweight all while providing exceptional warmth. The abundance of pockets provides plenty of storage for gear and documnets. Other officers who look at my jacket have had great admiration for it.The only thing I think may improve this jacket would be to double the elbow areas of the jacket to provide for greater durablity and padding while use during opperations. Excellent product, well worth the money.

As much as I love 5.11 products, the company has been stone deaf in listening to the needs of their taller customers. Case in point, this Sabre jacket is really nice, if you don't mind have your weapon exposed every time you lift up your arms higher than your waist. 5.11 clothing must be offered in 'Tall' sizes- we will pay more for it!

Pro: Excellent investment and worth the price - I'm buying one for my son. Con: The only real complaint I have with this jacket is that there is no dual zipper for the front - the ability to be able to pull the zipper up whole seated would help eliminate the bunching of wearing it while seated.

A great jacket but the hood fit is awkward and constantly needs adjusting, and it is marketed as a detachable stow-away hood but no place to stow it. Would be better to have it roll up and stow away in collar.

This is a good rain jacket. This rain jacket is not worth the cost. Fits a bit larger than other jackets I have. Very thin, not good for cold weather unless you have an inner jacket to go with it. The company should get rid of the velcro patch areas on the sleeves (most uniform patches need to go here and are bigger than the velcro patch) as well as the upper arm pockets. I would suggest adding loops for a radio mike similar to the 3 in 1 parka and add 2 pen/handcuff key pockets where the velcro patches are currently at.
