I bought this as a work bag so bare in mind I don't use it for gear or amo. Normally these are the types of bags I like to use for work as they hold up well for wear and tear in the field that I work in. This bag is well made, and the quality will last a long time which justifies the price. But after a year of using it, I think I'm going to switch because certain aspects of the bag are just not ideable. I'm always irritated by the Velcro you need to open to open the bag. It's a very strong Velcro but it's so loud and annoying to pull open everytime you go into the bag. I also do not like the shoulder strap, it's very awkward and not comfortable at all. It also has a strap to hold the bag , but it's placed on the cover that closes the ba as well, so if you hold it by that strap, and it's too heavy, it will open up unless you have both latches latched all the way. I think for daily use it's not very ideal.

Im hard on my EDC bags: they have to be able to go everywhere and do everything. So, I look for premium, high-function, durable gear that can go from an office setting to a jobsite or the field. I LOVE my Rush 72 and had high hopes when my wife got this for me as a gift to replace my current work messenger bag. Unfortunately, it misses the mark in so many ways, Im going to have to shop for something else. For starters, the strap is too short: like 51-52 inches connected to points midway up the bags sides. So, if you wear it cross body for stability on the move, itll be damn near in your armpit. Second, its too tactical for any professional setting other than a SWAT mobile commander center. I could get past the only color option being black, but all the MOLLE and Velcro is nuts. Just lifting the front flap on a quiet flight sounds like ripping up the cummerbund flap on a plate carrier. Forget trying to quietly grab a pen while someones talking in a meeting. No stealth, no subtlety. I appreciate the size and loop patch of the CC compartment. A full frame pistol can fit in there. I like intent of the external water bottle sleeve, but it wont fit anything much bigger than a disposable water bottle, and certainly not an Odwala or a Nalgene. Maybe thats what all the molle is for? The internal punches and pockets are great for all you cords and batteries and devices. I also like the front outside pocket as a go-to spot for my pocket items before going through a security checkpoint. Overall, this bag just looks and feels like a bugout bag or a tool bag, not a grownup, go-everywhere EDC bag.

Buying my second one after ~250k miles flown and countless hotels stayed in. Fits perfectly on your roller board handles and under all seats on AK and UA I know for sure. The water bottle holders (that are essential!!) wore out at the bottoms. Everything else still solid. Getting another one!

Very solid quality, built very robustly and with plenty of convenient spaces for all your messenger bag needs, the shoulder pad and the outside pockets are a highlight. I have some personal wants like the zipper pulls being a dedicated tab instead on a tie and the side bottle pouches being more sturdy but those are nit picks at best as they are still good quality

This bag is absolutely amazing. I have had mine for nearly four years and it shows nearly no wear or tear. Has protected my laptop and everything inside from many falls, hard stops in the car where it has flown into the dashboard fast, hard rainstorms and whatever else has been thrown at it. Pockets for everything and can expand to hold tons of stuff. I do not think I would change anything about this bag. Get one for yourself.

I have had my older model for about 4 years. Next level craftsmanship. This is just poor quality and 5.11 should be embarrassed. They sold me and had a forever customer until I saw this. Id rather keep my old one until 5.11 figures it out and goes back to the basics. Smarten up!

I just received my bag very well built excellent quality and craftsmanship, only thing that keeps from being 5 stars is that there is space in the top flap for another zippered pocket next to the one that is currently there. All the designers need do is add an additional zipper next to the existing one to make this compartment. Bottle sleeves are nice but here could be slightly larger to hold vacuum insulated water bottles such as hydro flask and similar brands.

After looking for the right messenger bag for bringing important documents, my laptop, a first aid kit, my SteamDeck, and other essentials with me between home and the office I have finally found the perfect bag and am really happy with this purchase. I've tried an Alpaka premium bag but it was kind of small, didn't have a briefcase-like handle, wouldn't hold my 20-oz coffee Yeti after a day at the office, and really limited what I could carry with me. This bag is large enough for my 17" diameter laptop, an full-size ipad pro with case, my ipad mini, a notebook, paperwork, and cords and plugs needed to run them. Honestly one of my most satisfying purchases in a long time.

Ive owned 2 iterations of this bag and the only issue i have had with them is where the shoulder strap anchors are positioned in the water bottle opening on both sides so if your bag is being worn and you attempt to put a yeti or water bottle back into the pocket, its difficult to do without stopping.

As usual with 5.11 products, it seems practical, it looks practical, but in actual use its not practical. Some features make no sense or are difficult to access. Other features fill in too much space. There are drink holders that do not hold drinks. nnI don't need more pockets and features. I need more usable space. The pockets are already filled up with pockets. It needs a place for the occasional easy access paperwork without bending or tearing it. Its too flat. Simple is better. Find a good, simple, practical, popular, dependable design and stick with it. nnColors. There's too much black in the grey bag. I don't want to draw heat with so much black on the bag. If you offer a grey bag, offer it in grey. I'd like to see a lighter grey as well. It could be worse. Tough construction. Good materials and stitching.nnI've given 5.11 two chances. I may look at the brief case bag as an alternative, but we might be done here.

Initially, I thought price point was a little high but after getting the bag in hand, I believe it is worth the cost. Replacement of other brand shoulder bag (Eagle Creek) .nSimilar size. Many functional pouches. For my liking, too many loop/hook closures. Just my opinion. I purchased some wide hook/loop material and covered the ones I didn't want to use like the overlapping portion of the bag. Works great. Still have squeeze buckles to secure it up. Can always remove the "added" pads if I want to revert back to the original layout.

A step down from the RUSH Messenger Bag

Much lower quality than the similar looking RUSH messenger bag. Several design elements have been removed or replaced and the bag has a lower quality feel than the previous offering. Less pockets and dividers, cheap elastic side pockets, and a lower quality shoulder strap.

So I typically don't do too many reviews but this time I must. I had a 511 Lima messenger bag from years ago. I took a shot at purchasing this bag as the Lima bag quality was unsurpassed. The quality and workmanship of this bag PALES in comparison to the old Lima bag! Must be a totally different manufacturer I'll tell you. Right down to the straps, clasp styles and quality, etc. Lucky I'm giving it the grade I am. Keep in mind, I'm doing so based strictly on my past experience with 511 products. Please go back to the old you.

Generally happy with the purchase. I can carry a full size keyboard now along with all other peripherals and cables for in office days.nnI believe it lacks the gusto of my old Rush lima messenger in 3 ways.nn1. Carry strap is ridiculously short even when fully extended. Needs another foot of material at least. It is also too thin. I mitigated this by salvaging the shoulder piece from my old bag.n2. Even though the space is there for it, 5.11 did not utilize the space for another outer zip pocket on the left side of the flap. These pockets are great since they are easily accessible while carrying the bag.n3. The drink holders now rely on nonmesh flimsy material gathered by elastic rather than a strap that can expand and be tightened. Very disappointing. nnOther than those items the bag serves me well however if I still prefer my old Rush Lima.

I bought the bag to carry some of my extra school books and materials. I like the design and size. It is well made - the stitching and zippers are quality and feel durable. There are plenty of pockets to put smaller items. The shoulder strap is comfortable, adjusts easily, and stays put. Overall I am very happy with the bag!

Had a minor issue with my order but it was promptly corrected. I read another review about a 17" laptop fitting so I purchased it. I have 17.3" laptop and yes it's tight but it does fit. Just have to be patient and slide it in evenly. I also feel like the Velcro and clips make sure everything is secure. I'm in IT so I don't use the conceal carry pocket for a firearm but I do use it for a LAN cord. It works very well for my daily needs, holds everything I need. The two pictures are 15" and 17.3" laptops.

Pleasantly Surprised How Great This Bag Was.

The online photos and descriptions of this bag do not do it justice. It is way better than shown online. I had ordered it online as a replacement laptop bag and was pleasantly surprised by just how awesome this bag was designed. It has a padded sleeve to hold my laptop and lots of open space in the pack to keep my cords, files, and other stuff. It also has several zippered storage compartments to store smaller items in a very organized fashion. The material is strong yet lightweight compared to my previous leather bag. The cover has ample velcro plus a clip to hold it in place securely and makes for an excellent clean style that looks great. Another surprising feature was the sleeve for my suitcase handle when I travel. I would highly recommend this bag if you are looking for a well-designed laptop bag with all the bells and whistles, excellent style, quality, and price.

Not for me, the straps are too low on the bag where the water bottle goes. The water bottle pocket is not adjustable. The CCW part of the bag barely fits a G19. Shoulder strap pad does not stay in place.

I bought this bag because it offers so many pockets. The pictures and descriptions dont do the bag justice. There are more pockets than the pictures show. I use this bag for my job, as I carry an iPad, product samples, numerous product brochures, business cards, sticky notes, planner, etc.. Of all the bags I considered, this one was one of the very few that had all the features I wanted and is very well built! Would buy again!

I had a hard time finding an attractive messenger bag that would fit a 17 laptop. My Alienware x17 fits just about perfect in the 18L overwatch messenger while still having ample amount of space for any other accessories. I was worried it might be too big and bulky, but that is not the case. I am happy with the build quality and overall feel of this bag.

Needed a larger messenger bag with multiple pockets that could carry a lot of my gear (international airline pilot, so lots of stuff). Very happy I went with this bag, tons of pockets (more then what the pictures show) and slides perfectly on my suitcase. Holds an iPad, laptop, headphones, plenty of small pockets for glasses, chargers, etc. Barely fits under an airline seat, but it does. Highly recommend for travelers.

This bag works great for carrying my laptop and folders. This bag protected my laptop when I had to slam on the brakes and the bag flew forward in the car. I was worried the laptop may be damaged, but it was Intact. I must say the designers of this bag knew things like that can happen and padded up the laptop pocket. It even has the velcro for some patches. Tons of pockets on the inside too.
