Great construction and organization. The design of the top zipper makes accessing the man compartment effortless.
RaspundeMarc B.,
This is my second side trip and I love it! Super versatile, functional, and durable. Very well designed and useful for everyday and work use. The last one I had lasted me seven years. Hopefully this one will last as long if not longer.
RaspundeKelly,
Great day bag that fills all needs of a EDC without the tactical backpack look. I have two, one for work and personal use. Sooo many ways to get great use out of this bag, only limited by your imagination. I use one in floorboard of my day cab semi. Multiple drinks, food, snacks, nav system, flashlight, ect. All organized in one bag because I can't leave it in the truck. Personal bag holds and organizes everything to satisfy my boy scout mentality. Law enforcement buddies have them after I showed mine off to them, they say it makes for an excellent seat bag for work gear. The only complaint from me and them is that there are no Velcro dividers for the main compartment. Those once savaged from other bags makes it golden.nIf 5. 11 ever made the same bag but half as long I would love to get buy one. Hint hint wink wink 5. 11. Cut in half, lose the lab top pouch replace with the padded pouch with dividers from the other side and cap the end with the same padded mesh drink pocket, or a third large padded pocket on the end. Would make for a great smaller option to the existing bag which is too big sometimes, like riding with someone else or a truck full of family. Just a great suggestion.
RaspundeAdam,
Not quite its intended purpose but this bag makes a perfect flight bag for an airline or corporate pilot. Just the right amount of pockets vs open areas with plenty of room for iPads, laptops, headset bags (easily fits a Bose A20 or Proflight bag) and the other miscellaneous stuff.
RaspundeGregory B.,
Really nice sized bag, I have routine items I like to carry but also lots of space for the laptop and tablet. Pretty happy with it. Odd thing, though, that it was obviously used by someone and returned because I found their personal items inside when I got mine. The bag was in perfect shape and would have passed for new if not for the obvious clues that someone had used it before. But otherwise happy with the purchase.
RaspundeScott N.,
I have three of these, and I might buy more. I use a different case for every organization which I belong. These are my favorite because they are easy to carry EVERYTHING that I could possibly need. I like the variety of compartments which helps me stay organized. I really like the large outside compartment for the files I know that I will need for the current meeting, with the spacious center section allowing me to carry the files that I might need &/or my laptop. The material will probably outlast me. I cant see this ever wearing out!nThe water bottle holders are great.nIve never used the rain cover yet, but what a great piece of mind knowing that its there!
RaspundeAndrew K.,
I am a professional pilot and use this briefcase to carry all of my flight gear. The bag is very sturdy, and has plenty of pockets to keep everything organized. This purchase is a replacement bag for the same briefcase that I have used for the past 4 years nearly every day. The original bag is still in great shape but starting to get some wear on the bottom corners from being drug around airports. The old bag will turn into my range bag and have many more years of utility. Outstanding bag! I was very upset when the weren't available for a few months!
RaspundeB.J.,
My first bag is still in decent condition without any issues but after maybe 6 years it has stretched out. The case is wider than it was new and the pockets are kinda saggy so I decided to get another. I love this bag and it comes to work with me every day (about 6 days a week on average) Pretty sure these were discontinued for a while and was sad they weren't for sale. Now that they are back I'm debating ordering 2 or 3 more just to have in stock for when they wear out....... I like them that much haha.
RaspundeCoty G.,
Very convenient and accessible. I was worried about storage capacity, but there is plenty of room. Great bag. Only 4 stars because I wish I could put more patches on it.
RaspundeKevin A.,
Great case. I use this for work and carry a 15" Macbook Pro in it, and I love the concealed compartment for my handgun. Would recommend this to anyone looking for a briefcase with firearm concealment.
RaspundeFabian E.,
It's perfect sized! For me at least. nI work at a plant and started to add things to my every day essentials that quickly over filled my last bag. This fit everything perfectly. This is what I carry for reference:nVarious full sized notebooks, chargers, 3 pairs of cut resistant gloves, cables, various sized channel locks, sanitizer, travel size face wipes, JBL Charge 5 speaker, hand lotion, a box of tea, tape, flash lights, large microfiber cloth, various pens and refills, an entire clorox wipes container, a full size rubiks cube, a medium miscellaneous items pouch, glasses spray, travel box of q-tips, and a small bottle of air freshener for the stinky ones that enter my control room lol.nAll of that and still a bit of space for some extra things if needed! Like a full size laptop would still fit also. So if you have more or less of what I carry in capacity, you won't regret this bag :)nMaterials are nice and tough also! nAbsolutely love it! nAlso the way the you access the main compartment makes it really easy to browse through your items without making a mess or taking things out :)nThere's also a secrete rain cover in a pocket under the bag for those stormy days!
RaspundeMarc K.,
The only thing I dont care for is the way the carry handles must be fit together each time you grab it. Im still giving it 5 stars because I might get used to it. nnA little too much Velcro for some uses. nnBut it still merits all 5 stars.
RaspundeKeith B.,
I have been using this bag daily now for a week. So far so good. It is big enough to hold my files, manuals, guides and laptop. It actually has room to spare.nI have noticed a couple of things I would change. The two zippered pouches on the side should open more. Now, the zipper functions from 2 sides only. The pouch simply pulls down and you need to reach in. You need to feel around for stuff since it can be seen with the limited opening. More padding on the bottom would be nice. With the size of the main compartment, a lot of stuff can fit in here. More padding on the bottom to protect it would be nice. The last thing is the shoulder strap. It is curved to fit and perform better. The problem is the material it is made of. It has some texture on it but it still slides off my shoulder when using it.nOverall this is a big improvement from my last 5.11 briefcase. I am still getting used to it but I think with a couple modifications, it could be a great bag.
RaspundeConstantine S.,
Finally found a bag that can fit all I need. Durable, comfortable. Very happy with this purchase.
RaspundeNicole S.,
Bought this for my husband for his birthday and he loves this bag for work!
RaspundeDave B.,
Rugged briefcase that I can throw in the truck without babying it when I go on assignment. I like the access provided by the double zipper set-up on top. Plenty of room for paperwork. Plenty of room to become a range bag as I can easily fit a firearm, ammo, ears and eyes in there and remain discreet. Plan to use this for airline travel (without the pistol and ammo), as it allows easy access for laptop and other gear. Should make going through security so much easier than with my hard case carry-on.
RaspundeK,
Great bag, lots of options on packing and organizing. One big complaint, bag is set up for Velcro dividers in main compartment but none ship with bag and you can't order them separately. I took three form my other bags it changed it from a good to great bag. Wished I had purchased this bag ten years ago top notch.
RaspundeJohn I.,
Very nice bag with lots of storage for when i need to travel
RaspundeFaria S.,
Great for organizing books, laptop, file folders, pens etc. Easy to access and use daily
RaspundeRobert,
Perfect for a daily carry for work. Laptop compartment, with a main compartment big enough to hold a change of clothes for the gym or overnight. Compact but with enough room for more then just a laptop. Side pouches are well thought out and functional. DOES NOT COME WITH HOLSTER! $22 Holster pouch fits perfectly and velcros in. The only thing I'd change is the cocealed carry compartment is velcro and not a zipper. Besides that the bag is very functional and the best layout I've seen.
RaspundeJim,
The shoulder strap doesnt have a grippy finish so it constantly slips out of place. Second, the interior structure of the bag cannot withstand the weight of 15+ round magazines and/or metal frame handguns. If you mount a holster to the molle the whole bag kind of implodes over time, collapsing on itself. This makes the bag a poor choice for efficient use in a draw from concealment situation. I had to place hard viard board inserts into the compartments which seems silly but necessary.
RaspundeJohn F.,
Great bag. Very versatile. Perfect for use on the 737.
RaspundeNicholas T.,
The product itself was awesome. Love the bag. The customer service was terrible. Wouldn't buy a pencil from 5.11 ever again. Their shipping was almost a week off. When I called customer service I spoke to Mr Had a Bad Day. No reason to give me a attitude cause you're shipping stinks....
RaspundeJay S.,
This is a larger briefcase. It carries your office and overnight essentials. It could easily double as your carry on flight bag. Built tough, and includes many padded compartments, handle, shoulder strap, and a rain fly. Better than the briefcase you have.
RaspundeDaniel P.,
Excellent briefcase for car or plane travel. Barely fits under seat in front of you, but love having the larger bag so I dont have to cram things in it. Im having trouble finding a holster that will attach to the hook and loop lining in the CCW section, but still love the bag. My co-worker plans to get one too.
RaspundeRick L.,
I had everything from my media backpack (Rush 24 size equivalent) Fix perfectly in here. Laptop, Surface Pro Tablet and power cables, External HD, Writer, etc etc. It all fit and left almost no room. Impressed by what the amount it holds. Durable as all 5.11 products. Concealed carry option is very nice but be aware the size of the Pew can reduce the amount it will internally. Rain cover works well. Grabbed this on sale during the 20% deal. Worth it!!
RaspundeChris P.,
This bag is a good alternative to the messenger bag which I couldnt get in black anyway. If its all types of laptops and has ample room for files inside for any type of criminal investigator. Much better than carrying a backpack like youre a kid going to school but going to the office. I only wish that was more areas to put patches on the outside, maybe a smaller zippered pouch on the inside for valuables, and some type of explanation of what the nylon strap is on the laptop side. Other than that its actually a great size bag. Somebody mentioned the zippers being so par but I dont think so they seem to be big enough to handle the job. I ordered this because messenger bag wasnt available in black and Im glad I did. I like being able to carry it with the handles like a briefcase.
RaspundeLuke K.,
Never a fashion statement nFUNCTIONAL ALL DAY EVERYDAY
RaspundeDanny B.,
Alot of storage. Comfortable shoulder strap and hand grip. It holds my back up, gloves, 81/2
11 binder. Pens, cuffs. This is a great bag
M W.,
Nice bag, but the zippers are not the best. For a bag at the price, I expected the zippers to be better quality; at least metal zippers. Also, the zippers on each end of the bag do not zip down without having to maneuver them and I still have not been able to get them down, afraid the zippers will break. Which is why I wrote the zippers are poor quality.
Raspundechris g.,
This bag has exactly every thing I was looking for. Durable construction. Excellent storage. Usable internal space so you can actually bring stuff to work beside file folders and a few papers. The expanding side pockets are large enough to hold a full liter water bottle. I imagine that this will last for much of my career. One bag to rule them all!!
RaspundeHz,
This is the best briefcase I have ever owned. And I have tried out a number of alternatives, including a super expensive Rimowa Pilot Suitcase, which is meant to be indestructible, but wasn't (the snappers had to be replaced after a while, and that can only be done by a Rimowa service). This one here is just perfect in size, quality and the look. I have now been using it for at least five years, 9 months of the year for daily work, additionally sometimes as a handbag for holidays. There is no end in sight as there is no malfunction at all. Only visible wear is on the anti-slip coating of the padding on the underside of the shoulder strap, and the velcro of the rear pouch divider has torn off a bit from the fabric of the inner lining, so it does not securely attach over its full length anymore. Compared to the effects of wear on other bags I can only smile about that.Usually I carry my large iPad in the rear pouch, some cables and connectors here and there, a couple of files and books in the main compartment, some bureau and everyday necessities stuff in the front pouches, food for the day or night on duty (I store the sandwiches in a special flat box that goes with the books and files), a pocket knife / spoon / fork set on the molle line inside, a large stainless steel bottle of water and a large Stanley coffee mug in the sides. I added a molle hook inside where I can place my watch or my wedding ring in case I need my arms clean. Of course, one could also use the key hook in the front pouch for that, but the molle hook is easier to access. The concealed compartment I use for a self defense spray can, as anything else is not allowed here. The rain cover I have now been carrying around over the years, never used it, as I am a car commuter (everybody knows that if you have a rain cover at hand you won't ever need it). And in the car I have a Knirps pocket umbrella that easily slips into the briefcase if needed. If you stuff the briefcase too much, for instance with big full bottles at each side and lots of papers and books on the inside, carrying it naturally becomes uncomfortable, and maybe that could also ruin the snap hooks of the sling on the long run as somebody says in another review (which I do not believe to be possible, as the plastic looks really sturdy; I have only seen that effect on cheap bags with full metal hooks). Then you better go for a backpack or trolley. I am always trying to keep the overall weight low. When travelling, my washbag and everything else that you need over a long day easily fits inside. Please never discontinue the production of this one, I would never buy anything else.Kind regards from Germany,HZ
RaspundeJack,
Best briefcase I have ever owned. I retired my $1000 Tumi leather bag and carry this one everywhere. Looks great, easy to clean, carries everything. I added 2 interior pouches for cords and small items, but it carries a big laptop, files, personal gear. I have used it as an overnight bag and it works fine. Highest quality material, construction, features. I bought one for my son who carries his every day, too. Outstanding product, thanks.
RaspundeRyan,
Nice bag but the connectors for the shoulder strap are made of plastic and busted pretty easily. Other than that I like the bag and the rest of it has held up pretty good.
RaspundeNorm,
I bought one of these bags almost twelve years ago. It has been used as a duty bag, carry on luggage, briefcase, tool kit and radio bag. It has seen all kinds of use and abuse, but is still (remarkably) almost like it was new. The side pouches are perfect for a couple of portable radios or water bottles, the front pouches for pens, notebooks, toiletries, shaving kits, usb and patch cables, small tools, etc. A laptop fits perfectly in the back pouch. The main compartment is rugged and if you need more compartments, molle straps make it easy to attack pouches and other gear.12 years and still going strong. One day it might have to be replaced, and if that day comes, I hope 5.11 Tactical still carries this item. If I could give it 6 stars, I would.
RaspundeLuis,
This is a good EDC Bag for work. I work Armed Security and it is my carry all for my EDC.
RaspundeRobert,
I've been suffering through the Goldilocks syndrome of bags ever since our airline switched to the Electronic Flight Bag. One is too small, the next bag to large. Four trips into this bag and I am thrilled. Pluses: The wide open, double zipper top makes for easy access. Carries my Contigo coffee thermos as well as a large bottle of water. Plenty of space for lunch. I added the 511 Molle 6x6 to hold my David Clark headset.Cons: Still just a tad too large but we're talking 1-2 inches. My only wish list would be that the large full length "quick access" pocket would be a zipper rather than velcro. With any weight in the two front pockets the velcro pulls apart and opens that pocket wide open if the bag is hanging from your shoulder or from your luggage. Even snaps would be better and more secure. And I think the perps would hear that velcro rip open if you used it for concealed carry.Easily a 4.75 rating. HIGH quality construction, nearly a perfect flight bag for an airline pilot.
RaspundeMike P.,
I'm a Paramedic and use this bag daily when on the ambulance. It stands up on it's bottom and does not fall over when driving and fits in the front cab along with my partners gear.It holds all the gear I don't carry on my person along with food and water with some room to spare.I've been using the bag for about 2 years now and is still going strong. It also never leaves work as it fits in my standard sized locker, despite always hanging from a hook, the straps are undamaged. My only complaint is the secret pocket is held together with velcro and when the pockets attached to them are heavy with gear the pocket opens so basically you cant over load the front two pockets.I carry my stethoscope in the secret pocket and it has protected it well.
RaspundeCharlie F.,
I've used this bag for over a year now. When used as an overnight bag it works well, however it falls down as a computer bag. There is no way to divide up the large center pocket for laptop and file storage; everything just kind of gets thrown in.
RaspundeFmf,
I have carried this briefcase almost every day for over seven years, including on deployment in Iraq. It literally has been all over the world with me. In all that time, I have yet to have something break, tear, or fail. The closest is that the Velcro on the CCW pocket is a little worn, but after seven years, I don't think any Velcro would be perfect.I have carried laptops, tablets, files, and piles of other gear in it. The front pockets are ideal for chargers, plugs, and the other small things needed for electronics. My coffee mug fits neatly in the end pocket, and the tablet goes perfectly in the rear pocket. The most easily missed part of the design is the large webbing strap on the rear - ideal for dropping over the extended handle of a roll-aboard suitcase. The briefcase fits neatly beneath an airline seat. With it and a small roll-aboard, I am good to go for a week on the road. This is the best field briefcase I have ever seen. If it ever wears out, the only replacement is another just like it.
RaspundeAndythecop,
Worth the extra dollars! I have had this briefcase for a year and it is showing no signs of wear. I used to replace work bags/briefcases every six months. The only problem is that it is too roomy and I overpack it...LOL. Great for Laptop, gear, files, side pockets for adapters, flashlights. You can fit your whole desk in this thing if you have to.
RaspundeEagle O.,
Best bag I've ever purchased. Holds all the things I need when I'm on duty.
RaspundeGary,
As a federal investigator, I use it as a daily work and go bag, very sturdy. Would be nice to have a few 2-3 file style pockets for papers/reports and folders. Would definitely recommend to others. Thanks for the great products.
RaspundeMolon L.,
Works nicely as a small patrol bag for the times when you don't have the room for or need your full size patrol bag.
RaspundeOrdianry J.,
Plenty of space for various equipment. Concealed carry using suggested holster and mag pouch is ok. Bag is not rigid enough to support weight of full size pistol with two high capacity magazines. Needs to have a stiffening membrane to keep bag from collapsing on itself.
RaspundeSpiral T.,
I am so glad I bought this bag. I use daily and can carry everything I need for crime scene call outs or routine follow-ups.
RaspundeDave C.,
There's only one thing that kept me from loving this bag when I bought it: not enough padding for my laptop in the large pocket. But it was easy to fix with a padded sleeve that I put my laptop in before putting it in the pocket. That's the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars - as soon as I added that extra padding, this bag rocks! I take it everywhere, packed with camera gear and accessories.I wrote about it on my blog, with a couple of photos that show how much photo gear I can carry: [@]
RaspundeGary C.,
I spent several months looking for a cross between an equipment bag and a briefcase. Most equipment bags have one big compartment with no dividers and one or two side or front pouches that when stuff is in them take up interior space. Most soft briefcases are for laptops with plenty of dividers inside but not enough storage because it's for a laptop. Some travel type bags are similar to the equipment bags, one big compartment and no way to divide it. The only thing that I found and was discarded as a selection was the salesman type cases but almost all of them had the rollers and handle that make it too heavy to carry. I had just about given up on ever finding anything when I saw one at work. I was commenting on it to another worker how nice it looked when the owner said I couldn't have it. I got a better look at it a couple of days later and was impressed with it's storage and durability because it's 5.11. I ordered one and received it today so I'm ready to use it for work.
RaspundeRon,
We are looking at this bag for our field team leaders for use as a portable office. I purchased one for my own use and love it.Great bag!
RaspundeJd,
Does come with a shoulder strap. Lots of room, nice storage options. I've beat it up and shows no sign of wear. Fits nicely in an overhead while flying.
RaspundeDuke,
Been looking for a good laptop bag for a while and just stumbled across this at a local store. Just a great bag for my work. Laptop, blank CDs, notes & paperwork, cords, camera, cuffs, knife, flashlights & more. Only complaint I have is that the strap broke after one week. Store replaced the strap but the plastic construction of the clip that attaches to it will not bear a lot of weight. I had another strap with metal clips that I am using now.
RaspundeMike,
I purchased this product about 4 months ago because I wanted something different to replace my hard case seat organizer. It didn't have much room and was only built for a few specific things. Those organizers are not very good for customizing with different equipment. Plus it wasn't very secure on the seat. With the briefcase I put the seatbelt through the strap on the back of the bag and hang the shoulder strap around the head rest. It goes no where. The side trip briefcase is perfect for loading all of the gear I need in the front seat with me without taking up a lot of space. Plus I keep all of the pockets zipped until I need it in case of a wreck. That way I don't have things flying around if I get hit. No signs of wear and tear. Even better if you use a pool car and are constantly transfering gear to different cars. And if I even leave this line of work I can still use this unlike the old fashing seat organizers. Excellent product. Well done 5.11
RaspundeRick,
I purchased this bag to use with my carry weapon. The "hidden" pocket is great and will fit two firearms easily. I do wish it had some sort of strap to secure the weapon or that they were better set up for velcro use. The bag itself has several pockets to hold and organize your day to day items like cell phone, computer, notebooks, pens... It also says the shoulder strap is optional however I got a strap with mine.
RaspundeAttorney G.,
I purchased the Side Trip Briefcase to replace an old, low-frills shoulder briefcase that was worn out and did not provide adequate space or organization for my EDC. Being a civilian, the exterior presentation of this briefcase clinched my purchase; the appearance of other competing bags that I considered came off as a bit too tactical for a large private sector law firm. This briefcase has been terrific. The two large outer pockets provide more than ample space for various writing implements, power/charging cords, USB keys, flashlight, multitool, and anything else that I may want/need to add. The extra space makes it easy to expand the bag's content without hardly noticing. My firm-provided laptop is large but fits perfectly in the back pocket (as designed), leaving the voluminous main compartment open to files, iPad, and anything else that I may be carrying to or from the office. The utility of the concealed carry area goes without saying. As for the end pouches (for beverages), I knew that I would use them but have to say they are a fabulous convenience, especially in the morning when I almost always have a drink to carry in from the car. (Typically, a water bottle occupies one end for any unexpected needs.) The quality of design and execution in this bag is excellent. There are the points above, the ease of access to all compartments, the durability of materials, and attention to smaller points (such as the rain cover) that make this bag versatile for many uses and professions (LEO, military, or civilian).
RaspundeFriendly A.,
Read about this for use as a camera bag, so bought one to give it a go. Best pro caliber camera bag I have ever owned. Holds an extreme amount of gear while providing insane versitility.
RaspundeM A.,
I got this bag as a gift and was very skeptical at first about switching from my maxped, while there are good things on both that are not on the other, I have truly been able to stay more organized with 5.11's bag, but an improvement might be an external ID pouch. Sometimes i do find myself with too much space and feel like I should pack more. This bag has traveled with me to Afghanistan, Iraq, and now all over the United States as my job requires, and while it is a little worn, the integrity of the material and its functionality are very much like the day I bought it.
RaspundeLockheed123,
As an avid backbacker and general outdoorsman my preference for quality, dependable and practical gear extends to my choice of EDC urban gear.I chose the Side Trip Briefcase to store my laptop and daily essentials. After about two days, I noticed that the stitching that holds the laptop compartment has started to come apart. Whether the fault was already there or if it developed over that short period of time, I don't know.Either way, the briefcase could do with more than one row of stitching in all areas of construction or even increase the number of stitches per inch and make use of frequent bartacking in some places which it lackedOther things I noticed was how flimsy the webbing was. It is nothing like the mil-spec webbing that other manufacturers use that resist deformation and it seems to be of mediocre quality. When the briefcase is loaded heavily (7-9kg) the strap starts to lengthen under the weight which means that you have to keep on adjusting it every now and then.On the plus side, the general design is great and very spacious. Quality YKK zips used which is usual on all 5.11 products
RaspundeTj,
I spend a lot of time in a tie and wanted something that I could take with me on the road that would have a separate compartment for a pistol. It is fine enough but there are some things that are preventing this from being a 5 star purchase. The first is the size. If needs to be brought in a few inches. It is far too wide. For business purposes (which I believe is the intent of the product) anything significantly longer then a legal pad is excessive especially given the 2 water bottle holders on each side. The other issue that I have come across is the hook and pile that works as the closure mechanism for the area that holds my pistol. There needs to be a secondary means of securing the closure. I am thinking about having snaps sewn into mine. The closure is weak when you have a full bag and toting a full 1911. It stresses the velcro, pulls it down, and makes a scratching noise when picked up. I have since needed to downgrade weight-wise to an M&P shield and there is still hook and pile tape straining to come apart when I carry the bag. 5.11 could at least have sewn the hook and pile on TOP of the handle straps as well so there is a full and complete closure.
RaspundeTechsec1,
The Side Trip Briefcase fit my requirements perfectly. Its stylish enough for suit & tie and rugged enough for tactical environments. Fit and finish is top notch and functionality is superior to other cases Ive carried. Really like the top opening as opposed to a flap opening.
RaspundeCpr N.,
I do not like shopping, however when it comes to 5.11 it's almost addicting. As a 911 supervisor the space and ability to carry 'the office' if needed is great. As a photographer, I'm discovering incredible flexibility with this bag. As a CPR, First Aid & AED instructor with the American Red Cross this bag gives me the ability to keep my materials and tools organized and easily accessible. Awesome. Will Definitely Recommend.
RaspundeLt P.,
I purchased this briefcase about one and a half years ago when I was promoted. I like the bag overall. Plenty of storage, organized well, the gray interior helps in locating items that fall to the bottom of the bag. The reason for the low star rating is because my shoulder strap is falling apart. I do not abuse my equipment and I do not carry unusually heavy loads so that is not the problem. When I contacted 5.11 about the strap they told me to take it to a local seamstress and have it fixed. They would not send a replacement strap nor would they offer any other assistance. My personal opinion is that there are other briefcase options, for an equal or lesser price, that will be of better quality than this particular bag. I would recommend shopping around before committing to this bag. Stay safe!
RaspundeSkintones,
I bought the bag after my positive experience with the RUSH 24.Unfortunately, there seems to be a REAL problem with the tactical briefcase that's very, very annoying. The velcro for the hidden concealed pocket works great when the bag is empty. However, once the bag gets loaded, the front 2 pockets pull away from the main compartment as a result of the weight differential. This causes the concealed pocket's velcro to tear away and requires my constant attention to ensure that it stays closed as 'a concealed pocket'!To make things worse, the velcro doesn't run across the handle straps and in cases of light rain where it's too tedious to use the rain cover, rain seeps into the gaps and wet the contents of the concealed pocket. It's a pity that such a great bag retailing for almost [$] is compromised by a seemingly $10 problem.I hope the peoople at 5.11 can have a re-look at this problem and maybe look into using heavy duty button fasteners to supplement the velcros or a YKK zip to replace the entire velcro strip. It's like what you did for the Gen 2 RUSH 24 with all the improved reinforcemnts at the opening and carrying strap. All the best,Collin
RaspundeTechmeister,
I was skeptical at first, owned many laptop cases doubling as tool kit...but I quickly became a fan of this bag upon it's arrival. Not only does it have plenty of room for my laptop, cables, test equipment, I have room left over for my tools. The design is spot on, it is rugged, no cheap plastic strap connectors or zippers. I am so impressed, I am thinking of getting another one for personal use. I would definately recommend this to anyone and for the price, I think it's one of the best.
RaspundeGeorge C.,
I've been using it for 4 years now. I took it with me in the field, on trips (service and private), in the office. I never got to fill it up!. Laptop, documents, bottles, magazines, flashlights, cables, stationery, clothing; everything has a place. It's amazing.
RaspundeDirty D.,
This bag has so much room you can almost crawl inside of it for cover. I can easily fit everything I need for the day or for a week. Great quality, tough and durable. It has already suffered abuse at my hand with no dissapointment. All the compartments allow for easy organization without having to fumble through it looking for specific items. Holds up great in adverse weather without using the optional rain fly. The concealment pocket easily holds my .40 extra mags, badge and credintials with room to spare. All LEO's should have one provided by their respective ageny.
RaspundeTs,
I have been using this bag for a long time now and I'm still impressed with it's quality, design and my experience using it.Many easy-access compartments with smooth zips that never jam, very easy to access pockets and compartments quickly. It's very rugged and durable on the outside but the interior is smooth with padding in the main compartment making it perfect for more delicate items like a laptop. Side pockets are perfect for canteens or water bottles. The carry handle is excellent. The bag's design makes it practical for so many different uses, it's very versatile.

Room for laptop, files, gear, guns, and anything you need in the Chariot of Justice.

An excellent work bag. The main pouch is roomy and easy to access with the dual zippers. Velcro pocket is perfect for carring my firearm to and from work. Side pouches actually fit a large camelbak water bottle. Bag is comfortable to carry and the perfect size for a work briefcase.
RaspundeRgbysgt,
I was surprised with how lightweight the bag was compared to others I've looked into. The material feels solid and I was able to fit more into less space than my previous bag. Very convenient for travel since a laptop can be removed quickly for security checkpoints. Also fits easily under airline seats. Shoulder strap is very comfortable and handles are durable. I would buy this bag again and probably will when I wear though this one. P.S. I like the flag patch area so I can proudly show off the US flag.
RaspundeCmchilds,
I used the bag daily and love everything about it except for the velcro compartment. If the two outside pockets are utilized, the compartment does not remain closed but instead hangs open. There needs to be a different fastener method for this compartment because structurally, all of the weight carried within the pockets is supported by it.
RaspundeDavid,
This is a great bag, but it does have one or two things that I don't like.I'm on the road a good bit, and I primarily bought this bag because I wanted something that I could carry my laptop, other associated gear (cables, chargers, tablet, etc), but could also serve as an overnight bag.The large center opening is great for an overnight bag. I can stuff a day or two of rolled clothing in there, ensuring that I will only have to bring a single carry on on a flight. The downside is that when I'm not stuffing the center of the bag with something, the bag sort of looks "limp". It kind of collapses in the middle. It's sort of a shame because otherwise the bag looks great. I wish there were some way to either uniformly collapse this center pocket when not in use, or otherwise keep it from collapsing when empty. Also, the felt on the insides of the laptop pocket and main compartment feels thin and like it's only attached around the perimeter of the panel. It sort of gives it a loose feel that doesn't seem to fit with how rugged the rest of the bag feels.Last, the two front pockets are roomy, but the zipper orientation can make getting to things a bit awkward at times. I wish 5.11 would let you just zip off the front of the pockets with a dual-zipper, similar to the one on the main compartment.Otherwise the bag is great. I've been through a lot of bags over the past year and a half trying to find one that fit my needs, and this one comes the closest.
RaspundeMe,
I am a pilot for a major carrier here in the US. This bag fits very well in the cockpit and is quite functional. There is one drawback in that with the equipment I carry every day, the bag's depth is about 2 inches too Narrow. Height is perfect but there needs to be a divider in the main compartment to store a computer. Also, a couple of internal pockets on the end in the main compartment would be a bonus. I would buy one made to these specs yesterday after using this bag for the last month. I spoke with someone on the phone the other day and gave them the same feedback. Feel free to contact me if there any questions. You would have a lot of buyers if these changes were made. A few of my friends have already purchased this model

Let me begin by stating that I hate shopping, hate throwing my hard-earned money away on poorly made, overpriced garbage, and having to deal with returning said items. So imagine my surprise when I received my Side Trip Briefcase and discovered it was everything I wanted, and more! FINALLY, I've found the motherload of well-made gear. Thanks 5.11, I'll be shopping your catalogue again soon!

I have used this bag for every day I'm on duty for about eight months now. Very tough bag, durable and practical. Also, professional looking and no one would guess that you have a bag that's ready for the battle to win and go home.It stashes away everything I need to complete my tour from my work laptop, chem lights, (personal) quick clot trauma bag, medical supplies, department forms, spare sunglasses, Nalgene water bottle, extra cuffs, extra slugs, spare handgun and magazines.Off duty travel is just as easy, I dump the laptop and department forms, throw in a pair of 5.11 Taclite shorts and pants, a set of shirts and other necessities. I'm good to go.
RaspundeWill,
Excellent bag, really multi-functional and well worth the cost.Design is really good, and quality excellent.Recommend for office, travel, tactical or anything else works pretty well.Use currently by admin person for travel to and from work and my ops staff use it as on-call bag. I use mine for everyday travel. Thanks
RaspundeCabocasas,
Great bag, I was able to empty the two different brief cases I used into this one bag. I recently took it on a trip with me & found it to be very compact. Now to make the bag better, 5.11 could re-design the bag's luggage handle velcro retaining strap to a full length center nylon piece with sewn edges on either side and possibly a strong magnut sewn into the center, rather then velcro. The present velcro strip is flimsey & wasn't strong enough to hold the bag in place, it kept shifting from side to side. In reference to the velcro concealment section, I feel this also needs a little re-designing. The overall concept is great, but the velcro section is hard to open & close, especially when you put heavy equipment in the section, like a gun & mags. I would try to place plastic inserts on either side of the enclosure & add a plastic pull, simular to the pulls located on the zippers, in between the two nylon pull taps presently sewn into the bag. With those two imporvements 5.11 would have an outstanding product & be way ahead of their competitors.
RaspundeMr M.,
Great purchase especially for the cost. Have really had no qualms w/ it. I use mine as a portable office & concealed carry platform. Additional note: the side water bottle pockets have a slot on the inside to store excess gear too (map, back up mag, etc..). It comfortably fits files, two dictionaries, laptop & power cord, pens, highlighters, staplers, index cards, pad of paper, pistol & mags... with plenty of room to spare. A must for anyone always on the go or if they have to carry a side arm for a living.
RaspundeWicked,
This is one very tough bag. I've used it regularly every day for almost a year and found it to be almost indestructable. It's my briefcase, mini-range bag, sometimes carry-on, bug-out bag and my all-around carry tote for stuff I don't want to forget. It's become a part of my daily routine and I'm not sure where I used to put all the stuff it now carries. Size is perfect, not gigantic but big enough.

Good size for sure, and very able to stretch. I wish it were available in the slightly heavier material that my two smaller 5.11 briefcases are, so we'll see how it's quality endures but the volume of it is just what I need.
